Who were your own favorites?

Fashion Week madness has started all over again, and with it, dazzling new silhouettes by deeply inspired designers. Here are HYPEED’s favorite so far, but it may change with the upcoming Parisian Fashion Week! About that, I, Slanelle, will run the shows to give you a day to day update of what’s going on in the capital of Fashion!

The Row – The shoes are unexpected with this virginal ensemble, but it works perfectly.

Rodarte – The model’s makeovers remind us of what Rodarte did last season, but the inspiring for the clothes is definitely somewhere else this time. The geometric shapes reminds us of Navajo tribes.

Prabal Gurung – Black and white reinvention of the classic androgynous tuxedo.

Charlotte Ronson – I love the pink hair and the hairdos (reminds me of crazy japanese street fashion) and I love the rock’n'roll spirit of this collection.

Band of Outsiders - So grunge, with plaid shirts and pants and khaki colors, and let’s not forget the mountain boots.

On Monday, at 9pm, journalists, celebrities and fashion bloggers were invited to Le Grand Palais, in Paris, to see Etam Lingerie last collection. Knowing that Chanel had had a catwalk there just a few days before, there was high expectation, and crazy rumors going around: Beth Ditto, Mark Ronson? Not only were these rumors true, but there were also good surprises, like Kate Moss, hanging out with Alexa Chung and Charlotte Casiraghi, or The Kills, here to sing one song during the fashion show. HYPEED was lucky to be there, and I brought back my own little video of that crazy night. Congrats Etam for putting up a magical show, we’ll definitely be waiting for the next one!

Yesterday, I took advantage of my train ride back home to read the latest Vogue UK. I’d seen the new Prada collection before, but only then, in the train, did it hit me. I suddenly saw the stripes, the hairdos, the curious prints, and the shoes. And I had to ask you for your opinion, because it made me think about the power of high fashion.

Ok, let me explain, step by step.

I love the hairdos. In a dripping-ice-cream kind of way. (Yes, for some reasons, the hair make me think of a melting ice cream. But maybe I’m just hungry). Slick and shiny hair, original hairdos, which maybe I wouldn’t wear myself but it’s always fun to see that on a catwalk.

The stripes remind me of Beetlejuice, which is of course a huge compliment coming from me. I mean, Tim Burton is the master, but hey, it’s not the point.

The shapes then caught my attention. I can honestly say that I find the shoulder shapes extremely unflattering, let alone the skirts length.

What about these weird stripy colorful boas? To me, they look like the tails of dead imaginary animals. Or maybe huge furry caterpillars. Or maybe these things you put on the bottom of doors for the heat to stay in the room, you know what I mean? Anyway, they don’t look like something I’d want to put around my neck.

The prints. Bananas, monkeys. Prada, seriously? That’s exactly when my mind started to drift and I thought something like “If I had worn this print 6 months ago, people would have thought I was crazy, but now they’ll fight to be the first to wear it.” I love crazy prints like that because I think they’re fun and fresh, but I can’t stop thinking that if it was not Prada, people would hate them. I wonder if a label is really more powerful than people’s own fashion sense, or taste. Can Prada or Chanel, or Yves St Laurent, make us wear anything?

Oh my god I almost forgot to mention the shoes! I have nothing against the colorful pumps shown in the last photos. I think they’re cute and fun. No, what i’m talking about is the… sneakers… in the first photo. I hesitated in using the word “sneakers”, because indeed, no athlete would even consider putting them in that category. Okay, so if they’re not sneakers, what are they?  When a shoe is so weird you can’t classify it, it’s not a good sign. In the case of the Prada weirdos, I’d say they’re half way between what the Spice Girls wore when they were popular, and what the Spice Girls would wear now to make up for their fashion faux pas. How can this end well? I’m telling you, it cannot. Maybe two stylists at Prada had a fight because one wanted to create brogues and the other wanted a sporty platform shoe, and they ended up compromising, to eventually design these “in between” shoes. Is it even worth mentionning I don’t like them? I’ve seen bloggers loving them though, and, who knows, I might wear their knock off in 6 months. We’ll see if fashion wins me over.

All and all, I’m very surprised by this collection, I didn’t expect this atmosphere at all. I guess it’s good to be taken aback, it shakes your perspectives a little. Now, let’s see if the regular Prada customers will appreciate this new fun vibe! Also, I’d love to hear your opinion on it!
