Oscars’ best dressed!

Just a quick post before Fashion Week madness hits Paris to show you my 4 Oscars’ favorites! No, not my favorite actresses, my favorite dresses! I did like Black Swan but wouldn’t have made such a fuss about it. Oh well, I still love Natalie and am glad she won, but as far as I’m concerned, here were the best dresses:

Mila Kunis, divine in her lilac evening gown, with subtle lace details.

Kate Blanchett is classy, elegant and still manages to bring some originality. 20 / 20 !

I’m a big fan of Florence and the Machine, so maybe I’m biased, but I love this dress, which seems to come from another era. That plus Florence beautiful red hair…

Mandy Moore is barely recognizable! So chic in her nude gown, with delicate glittery sleeves!

Who were your own favorites?

Fashion Week!

Alexander Wang. Deconstruction in sweet peachy tones.

Fashion Week madness has started all over again, and with it, dazzling new silhouettes by deeply inspired designers. Here are HYPEED’s favorite so far, but it may change with the upcoming Parisian Fashion Week! About that, I, Slanelle, will run the shows to give you a day to day update of what’s going on in the capital of Fashion!

The Row – The shoes are unexpected with this virginal ensemble, but it works perfectly.

Rodarte – The model’s makeovers remind us of what Rodarte did last season, but the inspiring for the clothes is definitely somewhere else this time. The geometric shapes reminds us of Navajo tribes.

Prabal Gurung – Black and white reinvention of the classic androgynous tuxedo.

Charlotte Ronson – I love the pink hair and the hairdos (reminds me of crazy japanese street fashion) and I love the rock’n'roll spirit of this collection.

Band of Outsiders - So grunge, with plaid shirts and pants and khaki colors, and let’s not forget the mountain boots.

Where To Get It

Hey fashion addicts!

Have you heard the news yet? The HYPEED team is launching a brand new site, to help you fellow fashionistas in your quest for the ultimate pair of shoes, or the to-die-for dress! I (Slanelle, Fashion Editor at HYPEED) am a blogger myself, so I know what it’s like to see a super inspiring picture on the internet, to want to buy the item shown on the pic, but to feel lost when it’s impossible to know where they come from.

Where To Get It offers a solution to that problem! Just post the picture of the fashion item you want to buy, and the community will post you relevant links. Surely there’s a fashionista out there who can help you in your fashion quest!

You can even post the photo and ask the same article, but cheaper. Or maybe you can say you want it vintage, or whatever. Where To Get It is there to answer your every fashion needs ;)

Try it! Send this particularly inspiring photo that you saved on your computer weeks ago, you may find what you’re looking for in a few minutes thanks to Where To Get It community!

Tempted by that amazing denim shearling jacket? Now you know where to get it ;)

Etam, at Le Grand Palais, january 24th 2011

On Monday, at 9pm, journalists, celebrities and fashion bloggers were invited to Le Grand Palais, in Paris, to see Etam Lingerie last collection. Knowing that Chanel had had a catwalk there just a few days before, there was high expectation, and crazy rumors going around: Beth Ditto, Mark Ronson? Not only were these rumors true, but there were also good surprises, like Kate Moss, hanging out with Alexa Chung and Charlotte Casiraghi, or The Kills, here to sing one song during the fashion show. HYPEED was lucky to be there, and I brought back my own little video of that crazy night. Congrats Etam for putting up a magical show, we’ll definitely be waiting for the next one!

Prada SS11

Yesterday, I took advantage of my train ride back home to read the latest Vogue UK. I’d seen the new Prada collection before, but only then, in the train, did it hit me. I suddenly saw the stripes, the hairdos, the curious prints, and the shoes. And I had to ask you for your opinion, because it made me think about the power of high fashion.

Ok, let me explain, step by step.

I love the hairdos. In a dripping-ice-cream kind of way. (Yes, for some reasons, the hair make me think of a melting ice cream. But maybe I’m just hungry). Slick and shiny hair, original hairdos, which maybe I wouldn’t wear myself but it’s always fun to see that on a catwalk.

The stripes remind me of Beetlejuice, which is of course a huge compliment coming from me. I mean, Tim Burton is the master, but hey, it’s not the point.

The shapes then caught my attention. I can honestly say that I find the shoulder shapes extremely unflattering, let alone the skirts length.

What about these weird stripy colorful boas? To me, they look like the tails of dead imaginary animals. Or maybe huge furry caterpillars. Or maybe these things you put on the bottom of doors for the heat to stay in the room, you know what I mean? Anyway, they don’t look like something I’d want to put around my neck.

The prints. Bananas, monkeys. Prada, seriously? That’s exactly when my mind started to drift and I thought something like “If I had worn this print 6 months ago, people would have thought I was crazy, but now they’ll fight to be the first to wear it.” I love crazy prints like that because I think they’re fun and fresh, but I can’t stop thinking that if it was not Prada, people would hate them. I wonder if a label is really more powerful than people’s own fashion sense, or taste. Can Prada or Chanel, or Yves St Laurent, make us wear anything?

Oh my god I almost forgot to mention the shoes! I have nothing against the colorful pumps shown in the last photos. I think they’re cute and fun. No, what i’m talking about is the… sneakers… in the first photo. I hesitated in using the word “sneakers”, because indeed, no athlete would even consider putting them in that category. Okay, so if they’re not sneakers, what are they?  When a shoe is so weird you can’t classify it, it’s not a good sign. In the case of the Prada weirdos, I’d say they’re half way between what the Spice Girls wore when they were popular, and what the Spice Girls would wear now to make up for their fashion faux pas. How can this end well? I’m telling you, it cannot. Maybe two stylists at Prada had a fight because one wanted to create brogues and the other wanted a sporty platform shoe, and they ended up compromising, to eventually design these “in between” shoes. Is it even worth mentionning I don’t like them? I’ve seen bloggers loving them though, and, who knows, I might wear their knock off in 6 months. We’ll see if fashion wins me over.

All and all, I’m very surprised by this collection, I didn’t expect this atmosphere at all. I guess it’s good to be taken aback, it shakes your perspectives a little. Now, let’s see if the regular Prada customers will appreciate this new fun vibe! Also, I’d love to hear your opinion on it!

Tell us about … HYPEED

During last week’s LeWeb 2010 event in Paris, Nicolas had the pleasure to explain HYPEED’s mission and ambitions during an “I like …” interview with Jacques Froissant (follow him on Twitter @Altaide_JF) on behalf of french national television. If you don’t understand french, we’ve made a transcript of the key parts below.

Q: “How do you spell Hypeed ? And what is it ?”

A: “H-Y-P-E-E-D is like the combination of the words Hype and Speed. We bring a new approach to the online fashion market. First of all HYPEED is a community based online magazine made by fashion fans who all together co-create their own fashion magazine. Their inspiring contributions help other consumers identify the latest trends and find ideas just by looking at other real people like anyone you could meet in the street.

What we really try to do with Hypeed is revolutionize the way fashion is consumed and sold. Instead of presenting just products in a catalogue, we show entire looks with real people, people who have style and talent, and by sharing their stylish pictures, they help consumers find those looks or just clothing in online stores or real brick and mortar fashion stores. We believe that this is best way to get inspired and the Internet is great for that.”

Q: “Is this the end of top models ?”

A: “We don’t think this is going to happen. And, by the way, we enjoy reading glossy magazines like Vogue. We actually have a cooperation with Vogue in France. But we believe that for most people it is very interesting to look at real people with whom you might have more things in common than with top models; people that aren’t always perfect and people of different sizes and shapes. Our community offers a great opportunity for everyone to contribute and actively participate and to everyone to get inspired by people like yourself.”

Q: “Is HYPEED just focused on news and trends or will you also sell products ?”

A: “Today, we’re focused on fashion news. Our main objective is to have enough interesting content to offer so that any consumer can find trendy information. We have organized HYPEED like a magazine, sorted by themes. We have between two and three new fashion features per week that are always matching the current trends. As soon as we have reached the level where we see that we have enough readers as compared to our contributors, we will launch a new function on HYPEED offering merchants online and offline, to sell their collections as long as they embody the looks presented on HYPEED by our real people.
